AbacusNext Partners with Baton Rouge Area Bar Associations to Support Military Veterans

Wills for Veterans initiative provides pro bono will drafting and legal services to US Military Veterans

SAN DIEGO, May 25, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AbacusNext®, the largest Technology-as-a-Service (TaaS) provider for the professional services sector, today announced their partnership with the Baton Rouge Chapter of the Federal Bar Association for its June 1, 2018, Wills for Veterans event, co-sponsored by the Baton Rouge Bar Association and the Louisiana State Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division. Volunteer attorneys will provide pro bono will drafting and signing services to Baton Rouge area veterans using donated legal document generation software HotDocs, an AbacusNext product.

HotDocs software enables attorneys to accurately draft legal documents—such as a will, living will, and health care power of attorney—in a fraction of the time of traditional drafting methods, empowering Wills for Veterans to maximize its impact and help as many veterans as possible. All new volunteer attorneys are provided with training on how to use HotDocs software and become familiar with the accompanying document templates published by LexisNexis. Volunteers will access the software using laptops donated by the Louisiana State Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division.

Sign-ups for both volunteer attorneys and veterans are well underway and project coordinator, Valerie Schexnayder of the BRBA says, “We are thrilled about this opportunity to say thank you to our local U.S. veterans by bringing together members of the Baton Rouge legal community and legal technology partners like AbacusNext for this worthwhile event.  We encourage U.S. veterans interested in this no-cost program to register as soon as possible as appointments are filling up quickly.”

Timothy Parker, Director of Communications and Corporate Relations for AbacusNext, noted “We are proud to partner with the Federal Bar, the Baton Rouge Bar, the Louisiana State Bar and publishers like LexisNexis to support the U.S. veteran community through programs like Wills for Veterans. AbacusNext is honored be part of such a worthy cause and we plan to continue our partnerships with federal, state, and local bar associations across the country to sponsor more Wills for Veterans events in the future.”

The Wills for Veterans Event is on Friday, June 1, 9am to 5pm at the Baton Rouge Bar Association Office, located at 544 Main Street in downtown Baton Rouge, LA.  Veterans and volunteer attorneys interested in participating in the event should contact Valerie Schexnayder, at Valerie@brba.org or 225-214-5570, or Sharon Whitlow at 225-922-5110.
