Missouri Employers Mutual: More Businesses Injury-Free in 2017

April 26, 2018

Workers’ compensation insurer, Missouri Employers Mutual Insurance (MEM), says it experienced an all-time high in injury-free policyholders last year.

MEM’s 2017 workplace safety data show the company increased its total policy count from 15,857 to 17,561 in 2017. And that even with this growth, the percentage of MEM’s policyholders who had zero lost-time claims increased for the fourth year in a row, coming in at 89 percent in 2017.

MEM also reached its highest market share in the company’s 23-year history, with its market share increasing from 23 percent in 2016 to 26 percent in 2017, the company said.

Among MEM’s 13,574 small policyholders, 96 percent had no lost-time claims in 2017. For medium and large accounts, more than 63 percent, or 2,525 businesses, had zero lost-time injuries, doubling injury-free rates from 2016.

The insurer noted that in 2017 it celebrated 10 injury-free years in its own workplaces. The company has more than 300 employees and four locations across the state and has adopted the same policies it shares with policyholders: employees sign seat belt, drug and alcohol policies.

MEM is headquartered in Columbia, Mo., with offices in Springfield, Kansas City and St. Louis.
