ADAM Hinshelwood joked that he was finally showcasing ‘Hinshball’ to the York City supporters after the Minstermen emphatically struck seven beyond Aldershot Town.

York are now six points adrift of the Vanarama National League leaders Barnet with four matches remaining, with City narrowing the gap after the Bees drew 1-1 with rivals Wealdstone.

The closed gap has been a result of Hinshelwood stating that he would ‘letting the shackles off’ of his players after a 2-1 defeat at Braintree Town, which has so far delivered an incredible run of form.

Four straight wins, and a remarkable 17 goals scored in that time, has seen City discover a newfound confidence in the final stages of the season.

Not only was the 7-2 win another three points and an additional five added to the goal difference, but it was also an entertaining contest which at times was hard to keep eyes off of - thanks to nine goals, two penalty saves, a red card and even a hat-trick for Ollie Pearce.

Hinshelwood labelled it as ‘Hinshball’, a style he had been marked with whilst in charge of Worthing last season.

“When I first came to the club, that’s what I think the fans were expecting - it’s nice to see Hinshball turn up finally!” The York manager laughed.

“We’re not going to get too wrapped up about keeping clean sheets because we’ve scored seven goals, so I am really, really pleased.

“We got a little bit of luck but I think we created that ourselves, it was a really good team performance.

“The first 25 minutes was some of the best, the intensity, the quality of play, it was some of the best I’ve seen as a manager.

“It just seemed that we got a little bit complacent, we cracked it at 3-0 up and let teams back in.

“Full credit to the players, in the second-half we put them to the sword a little bit.”

York had taken the lead when Callum Howe headed Alex Hunt’s corner into the path of Ollie Pearce, who netted his first with his head.

Lewis Richardson struck a brace when first lifting the ball over Marcus Dewhurst, before sliding Hunt’s through ball beyond the Aldershot goalkeeper.

A saved penalty by Harrison Male aided City in their early dominance, but Aldershot did make it a nervy end to the first-half.

An driven strike by Jack Barham made it 3-1, before another penalty, again saved by Male, was eventually bundled home on the rebound by Kwame Thomas

York reinstated their two goal advantage when Pearce raced through on goal from a Howe punt forwarded, and struck past Dewhurst.

The red card to Cameron Hargreaves allowed York to add to their score line, firstly through Josh Stones, who slid an effort home.

Howe then ventured forward and powered an unstoppable strike past Dewhurst, before Pearce completed his hat-trick with a composed finish.

Hinshelwood was overjoyed with the attacking efforts of his players, and went into further detail on what his team produced

The boss added: “We’ve been speaking about the chances we’ve created in recent weeks and how there could have been more, but it was definitely the case today.

“These are one of those teams, Aldershot, in this league that keep you honest, they have got a quality about them.

“I don’t think it was a case of them being on their holidays, I think that we just started out of the traps and took the game to them.

“We wanted to see if they could deal with our intensity, and I’m really pleased, but it would have been nice to have gotten a couple more and kept a clean sheet.

“We will look at the goals we conceded and see where we can improve.”

Of those goals, Pearce’s hat-trick was one to remember, taking his tally to 32 in all competitions for the season, which is also his first season in professional football.

Pearce has now worked with Hinshelwood for most of his career, with his manager having kind words for the York hero.

“I’ve seen him do it time and time again, he’s a player that I’ve had probably for the last eight or so years now.

“He has just improved year on year.

“I do think he took a while to adjust to this level but we stuck with him because he [wasn’t expected] to come in straight away and tear it up.

“He had to develop and learn, and I knew he would do, and I’m just delighted that he’s getting the plaudits for another 30 goal season.

“He’s getting on a bit now [in age] but I think his best years are yet to come, he hasn’t been a pro before, this is his first time a pro.

“I think he’s going to be one to get better, he’s so intelligent and it’s not like he relies on pace and power.

“His goal contributions are silly, I just want him to keep going like that.”

Hinshelwood also had the fans to thank, believing that the supporters played a key part behind a fourth three points in a row.

“The crowd played a massive part, the whole place was bouncing.

“We were creating chances, playing some brilliant football without having to change shape, and the whole crowd played their part.

“That feel good factor, the place was bouncing and it was great to be a part of.

“Full credit to the fans, they were excellent today.”
