SAGINAW, MI — Tax Day is approaching.

While the yearly occasion treats others differently, some U.S. citizens will — if they haven’t already — receive a refund from Uncle Sam.

Some would say it’s wisest to add that extra cash to a savings account. Others would say, “What’s the fun in that?”

In the spirit of commerce, MLive will recommend five fun income tax refund investment opportunities in the mid-Michigan region.

‘Coyote On a Fence’

The end of the two-week run for the Pit and Balcony Theatre-produced drama, “Coyote On a Fence,” is this weekend.

The character study of a racist predator and an arrogant writer is scheduled for showings at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, April 11-12; and 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13.

Tickets cost $20. The theater is at 805 N. Hamilton in Saginaw.

Blast from the past

For more family-friendly fare, taxpayers could consider attending one of several presentations at the Delta College Planetarium in downtown Bay City.

The first of three shows scheduled for Saturday, April 12, “A Story of Survival: Dinosaurs,” is an animated feature that follows a young girl, Celeste, who journeys through time to learn about the planet’s former inhabitants.

The show begins at 2 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for children.

Remember the ‘Rivalry’

Excuse the self-promotion, but the MLive-produced documentary, “Rivalry: Battle of the Bay,” is scheduled as one of the features of this weekend’s Central Michigan International Film Festival in Mount Pleasant.

The film about a 48-year Michigan high school football rivalry begins at noon inside The Platform, 102 Moore Hall, on CMU’s campus.

Tickets cost $5.

Back to the future

While the “Bringin’ Back the 80s Festival” in Frankenmuth is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, tickets tend to sell out in the days before the show kicks off.

So, purchasing a pass this week may be a smart move for anyone hoping to enjoy the event’s 1980s-era cover bands, memorabilia, breakdancing and costume contests.

Sa-aaaaaginaw basketba-aaaaall

There’s a mid-Michigan connection in an NBA game this weekend in Michigan.

Saginaw-born Darvin Ham serves as an assistant head coach for the Milwaukee Bucks, who face the Detroit Pistons at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.

Friday’s game marks the final home game of the regular season for the Pistons, and could be critical for playoff positioning for both teams.

Tickets for Friday’s matchup remain available; click this link.
