OZAUKEE COUNTY — Habitat for Humanity Ozaukee (HFHOZ) is on a mission to build more affordable homes for families in need — and the public is asked to be a part of the solution.
The Spring Into Hope campaign is raising crucial funds to support HHOZ’s next home build in Port Washington.
With its current project on Portview Drive set for completion this August, HFHOZ is already looking ahead. Its goal is to increase the pace of home construction in Ozaukee County, providing more families with the opportunity to achieve homeownership, according to a HFHOZ press release.
Since 2000, HFHOZ has built homes approximately every three years, but they aim to accelerate their efforts to meet growing demand.
As a nonprofit that does not receive government funding, HFHOZ relies entirely on generous contributions from corporations, churches, civic groups, private foundations and individuals. Every donation — big or small — makes an impact. Plus, thanks to Port Washington State Bank, the first $15,000 in donations will be matched, effectively doubling one’s contribution. HFHOZ needs to raise $240,000 to break ground on its next home, and public support can help make that happen.
HFHOZ provides families with an affordable path to homeownership by offering a 0% interest, 30-year mortgage. Families only pay the actual cost to build their home — not the market value — making homeownership attainable.
To further protect affordability, HFHOZ provides a second mortgage covering the difference between the purchase price and the market price, which is forgiven by the time they complete 30 years of home ownership.
