SAN ANTONIO - A man convicted of elder fraud has been sentenced to the maximum possible sentence.

On Wednesday, William Richard Holliday was sentenced to 10 years in prison on two third-degree counts of Elder Fraud.

Holiday had been charged with two counts of Making a False statement to Obtain Property and Exploitation of an Elderly Person.

“Today’s sentence sends a strong message that those who prey on seniors will be held accountable for their actions,” Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales said. “It’s crucial that we continue to protect older adults and ensure they have the resources they need to safeguard their finances.”

In 2024, law enforcement discovered that Holliday had stolen the identities of an older man, and opened numerous financial accounts in his name, including the purchase of a Mercedes-Benz, two apartment leases, and even attempted to sell the victim's home.

“We are extremely grateful for the time and resources devoted by SAPD’s Financial Crimes & Forgery Unit,” Assistant District Attorney Hunter Morris said. “From numerous in-person meetings to the collection of additional evidence, SAPD’s collaboration with our Elder Fraud Unit made a meaningful, substantive difference in this case."

Holliday will serve his sentence in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
