SALT LAKE CITY – A Utah teacher is using social media to help pay off students’ lunch debt.
“One day I was running late and so I’ll just record myself sitting at my desk doing my makeup for a minute,” Kati Christensen said. “That was the one that kind of took off!”
Christensen is a special education teacher in the Weber School District.
Her fun videos on TikTok have caught the attention of people from all over the country.
Since January, she has raised $17,000 – enough to pay off lunch debt for 3,000 students in five schools.
She got emotional when asked how this movement changed her life.
“I just love my students. I love kids in general, that’s why I went into education,” Christensen said. “With all the negativity going on in education right now, I don’t feel like people are looking for the positives.”
Christensen plans on starting a non-profit so she can help reach more kids in need.
