While Eid celebrations are set for March 31, government employees across the country will enjoy a public holiday- except for those working in banks. Financial institutions will remain open on this day, not in observance of the festival, but to facilitate crucial year-end transactions. However, despite banks being operational, routine banking services will be unavailable to the general public.

March 31 marks the closing of the financial year, a crucial period for settling government-related payments, including income tax, customs duties, excise duties, and GST. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued a circular directing all banks to remain open on this day to ensure the seamless execution of these transactions. As a result, Eid, which would typically warrant a public holiday for banking employees, has been overridden by financial obligations.

For ordinary customers, March 31 will bring little relief, as key banking services such as cash deposits and withdrawals will not be processed. With banks prioritising government-related transactions, customers will have to rely on digital banking alternatives.

Online banking services, however, will remain fully operational, allowing users to manage fund transfers, bill payments, and other essential financial activities from the comfort of their homes.

As part of preparations for the financial year-end, banks will remain open on March 28 (Thursday) and March 30 (Saturday), ensuring that businesses and individuals can complete their transactions before the fiscal deadline. March 31, being the final day, will focus solely on government-related financial clearances.

    Bank Holidays In April 2025

While banks will operate on March 31, April 2025 will see an extended list of closures due to various festivals, regional observances, and scheduled weekends. In total, banks will be closed for 16 days in April 2025. Customers are advised to plan their banking activities accordingly. Here’s a look at the key dates when banks will remain shut:
