For lucrative careers, developed countries such as Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and New Zealand have some of the highest minimum wages in the world. Based on findings by Velocity Global, combined with valuable insights from Playroll and Business Day, there are also other noteworthy countries as follows. 

1. Luxembourg - US$3,214 per month 

Luxembourg, with its strong finance and technology sectors, claims the top spot effortlessly. Individuals aged 18 and over with specialized skills can earn a minimum monthly salary between US$2,711 and US$3,254.

Conversely, unskilled workers and those under 17 receive a minimum monthly wage of US$2,009 to US$2,679. However, this sky-high income is accompanied by a significant cost of living, which reached US$1,055 for a single person in 2024.

2. United Kingdom - US$2,578 per month 

As one of the world’s most powerful countries, it is not surprising that workers in the United Kingdom sustain a comfortable lifestyle. The National Living Wage is gearing up for a boost, with plans to raise the minimum wage to US$15.40 by April 2025. This increase aims to provide workers aged 21 and over with more financial support, thereby easing everyday expenses. The current minimum wage structure is as follows:

  • Apprentice rate: US$9.53 per hour 

  • Under the age of 18: US$9.53

  • Ages of 18-20: US$12.62

3. Australia - US$2,562 per month
