Scott Thisted, 49, has spent his entire career with Merrill Lynch after starting with the firm in 1998. Now managing director of The Thisted Group, he advises ultra-high net worth individuals and families.
Thisted said he views power in wealth management as “a combination of influence, trust, and expertise” that transcends mere authority. “Power, in this context, comes from the ability to build and manage a great team that delivers exceptional advice, guidance, and service to our clients, and cultivating long-term relationships,” he explained. “It is not about exerting power per se, but rather about becoming an indispensable resource to clients, colleagues, and our firm.
Thisted said he holds onto a big lesson he learned over the course of his career: “Concentration in an asset can create wealth, but concentration in a single asset can destroy wealth—so diversify to maintain wealth.”
