The future of Hull's Queen Victoria Square Barclays is unknown as the bank has submitted plans for a new location just a stone's throw away from the current site.

Hull City Council has received an application to convert two, currently empty, units on King Edward Street into a new Barclays Bank despite their current Hull branch being less than 100 yards down the road.

The two units, 21 and 23 King Edward Street have previously been home to the likes of Carphone Warehouse, Card Market, Clarks, and Phones4U. Plans show how the two units could be combined into one and become a bank with an ATM on the exterior. Planning documents submitted to the council state the location would be ideal due the high foot traffic seen in the area.

It remains unclear what this application could mean for the existing Barclays branch at the end of King Edward Street, facing Queen Victoria Square. The LDRS have contacted Barclays to ask if there are any plans to close their current branch or if the newly proposed site would be in addition to the existing branch.

However, Barclays declined the opportunity to comment or provide further details on the application and what it may mean for their current site.

The application for the new site will now be assessed and decided upon by Hull City Council.

King Edward Street seems to be a favourite for banks setting up operations in Hull. In addition to the Barclays already on the street, there is also a NatWest and a Santander on the street.
