A Barclays branch is set to be decommissioned in Tredegar town centre.

The proposal details plans to remove all external signage from the branch at 21-22 Castle St, including two nameplates, a projecting sign, and the Barclays logo.

The Tredegar branch was officially closed in January 2025.

The ATM and night safe will also be taken out, and the apertures filled to match the existing facade.

The external CCTV camera will be removed as well.

Inside the branch, all counters and furniture will be cleared.

While the building contributes to the historic character of Castle Street, it is not a designated heritage asset.

The proposal aims to minimise intervention and preserve the area’s character, maintaining the building's adaptability for future use.

No consultations with neighbours were undertaken, as the works are not expected to impact neighbouring properties.

There will be no changes to public access, routes, or disabled access provisions.

The removal of signage and banking-related features is not expected to affect the appearance of the street scene.

No changes are proposed to ventilation, energy efficiency, or existing waste storage provisions.

The proposal ensures minimum intervention and maintains the building’s adaptability for future use while aligning with the conservation area guidelines.

The proposal is awaiting a final decision from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council.
