The "importance of investment in infrastructure as a factor in Africa's development" was the central theme chosen by Angola for its presidency of the continental organization, and Téte António explained the importance of this meeting with Nardos Bekele, who heads the organization responsible for dealing with infrastructure issues in Africa.
Quoted by Angop, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that Angola's presidency of the continental bloc is very interested in the issue of infrastructure, especially with regard to its financing, and thus the preparation of the summit will serve as a start for this issue to be addressed with greater care, since without this it is not possible to discuss economic integration, circulation of goods and services, industrial development and diversification of the economies of member countries.
He therefore stated that the agency will work with Angola to achieve this objective: "Therefore, this agency, taking into account its mandate within the African Union, will work with us so that we can materialize this objective."
Nardos Bekele-Thomas has already expressed his willingness to collaborate with Angola. "We will have a full mission to Angola. The African Union Development Agency will be there, with all its technical capabilities, to discuss with the different ministries and see what we can obtain from Angola, but also what we can offer to Angola", she said, quoted by Angop.
According to a note from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to which VerAngola had access, the meeting with the Executive Director of the New Partnership for Africa's Development of the African Union Development Agency served for both parties to address "issues of common interest, with a focus on cooperation in the field of sustainable development, industrialization, regional integration and mobilization of resources for strategic projects on the African continent".
The other meeting with the African Union Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security "served for the two individuals to discuss the promotion of peace, stability and good governance in Africa, in line with the objectives of the African Union's Agenda 2063, in addition to exchanging views on the situation in the East of the DRC, South Sudan, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea and Mozambique", among other points.
It should be noted that Téte António is in Addis Ababa to attend the official handover ceremony between the outgoing and new African Union commissions. This ceremony, scheduled for this Thursday, will also be attended by the President of the Republic and current President of the continental organization, João Lourenço.
