Philippines to get 171 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in 2021 –DOF

The Philippines is expecting to receive a total of 171 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines this year, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III announced Saturday.

During his report to President Rodrigo Duterte, Dominguez said this is more than enough to vaccinate the entire adult population of the country.

“So the total we are expecting to receive this year is 171 million doses. So that 171 million is more than enough to vaccinate the entire adult population of the Philippines,” Dominguez said.

As of July 18, the Philippines has administered 15 million doses.

A total of 10,388,188 individuals have received at least one dose while 4,708,073 have been fully vaccinated against the illness.

The Philippines aims to vaccinate 70 million Filipinos from COVID-19.

Dominguez said the Philippines expected to receive 65 million doses from July 1 to September 30 and 55 million doses by the end of the third quarter.

“To summarize, by the end of this year, we will be able to vaccinate the entire adult population of the Philippines. Hopefully, everybody will agree to be vaccinated,” he said.

The Philippines reported 1,543,281 confirmed cases, of which 1,461,749 have recovered and 27,131 have died.

Dominguez also said that money was not a problem.

“And the money is already available for that, so there’s no problem with the money for this year,” he said.

“Now, for next year, we just had a meeting with Secretary Avisado and Secretary Duque yesterday and we noted that we had in the budget for next year already P45 billion for additional vaccination.”

Given the preparations, Dominguez felt that the country was in a good vaccination position not "only until six months. I think we are good beyond 2022."

Under the proposed P5.024-trillion national budget for 2022, the Development Budget Coordination Committee said a total of P665.72 billion had been released to fund the government’s COVID-19 response.

The Department of Budget and Management in early July said that some P6.49 billion of the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act (Bayanihan 2) remained unused. — DVM, GMA News
