Man Who Died After Overnight Fight Inside Hotel Monaco Now Identified

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Pittsburgh Police said a 41-year-old man is dead after a fight at the Hotel Monaco in Downtown.

The man has been identified as Jacob Brown of Burgettstown.

Officers were called to the hotel in the 600 block of William Penn Place around 2:30 Saturday morning. When police arrived, they were rushed to the 8th floor and found an unresponsive man. He was taken to the hospital where he later died at 3:05 a.m.

"No calls. No alarms. We were four floors down from what I hear," hotel guest Steve Friese said outside the hotel.

Friese was staying overnight and was checking out Saturday morning. When KDKA spoke with him, he said the hotel had not yet told him about the incident a few floors from above him.

"I don't really know what happened or how long it lasted," Friese said. "I would hope if something that was a situation where they had someone in the building that is dangerous, they should inform everyone."

According to police, they learned from witnesses there had been a fist fight between several men inside the hotel, but it's unclear if the men knew each other.

"At least we're early to bed, early to rise. At least we weren't a part of it," Friese told KDKA. "We pretty much stayed in the hotel room. We're not too afraid but don't go out at night because you never know what happens."

The Hotel Monaco said due to the sensitivity of the situation, they are not issuing a statement at this time.

Detectives Violent Crimes Unit and Mobile Crime Unit were called to the scene.

At this point, we have not learned about any suspects or arrests. Police are still investigating.
