Kyrgyz speaker presents collection of Manas epic to National Library of Latvia

Bishkek, Oct. 16, 2019. / Kabar /. Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Dastanbek Dzhumabekov presented to the National Library of Latvia a collection of the Manas epic, the press service of the Kyrgyz Parliament reported.

The famous library located in the city of Riga and has more than two million books collected from all over the world.

“From the Kyrgyz land, we brought to the Latvian readers a precious gift that promotes the development of spiritual wealth. The Manas epic is an invaluable legacy, pride and history for the Kyrgyz people. I think that this work, which has been passed from mouth to mouth from ancient times, will become a worthy part of your book fund,” said Dzhumabekov.

Executive Director of the National Library of Latvia Dzintra Mukane, expressing gratitude for the gift, noted that the Latvian reader highly appreciates the Kyrgyz literature. “In addition to the epic of Manas, our library reads a lot of works by the great writer Chingiz Aitmatov. In particular, through such creations as “Zhamilya”, “First Teacher”, “White Steamboat”, our youth know the traditions, features and culture of the Kyrgyz people,” he added.

The delegation of the Jogorku Kenesh led by Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov from October 15 to 18 is on official visits to Latvia and Lithuania.
