Bulgaria's jobless rate virtually flat at 5.7 percent in July

SOFIA, Aug 15 (Reuters) - The number of Bulgarians without a job edged down for a sixth consecutive month in July but the rate remained virtually flat at 5.7 percent compared with a month earlier, data from the state employment agency showed on Wednesday. The agency said 185,834 people were unemployed in July, 2,742 less than in June. The small decline was mainly due to an increase in seasonal jobs in tourism. The jobless rate in the Balkan country of 7 million people was 6.7 percent in July 2017. The agency, which calculates the jobless rate based on the number of officially registered unemployed, said over 17,000 people found work in July. The Finance Ministry expects the unemployment rate to fall to 6.2 percent this year and drop further to 5.6 percent by 2020 as domestic demand picks up.
