The Celta Vigo ace was a reported transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur last month.
Celta Vigo’s Sporting Director Felipe Miñambres spoke to the media today, and addressed a wide range of topics, including Spurs’ reported interest in the highly sought-after Maxi Gomez, as quoted by Celta Vigo’s official website.
Spanish media outlet Cadena Ser reported last month that Tottenham were closely monitoring the Uruguayan’s situation at Celta, with a view to making an offer for the talented striker.
That report appears to have been some way off the mark, however.
Miñambres spoke to reporters today, and responded when asked if there was any truth behind Tottenham’s reported interest in the 21-year-old forward, as quoted by Celta’s official website:
“We know there are teams that are following him because we have a good relationship with him. I did not know about Tottenham but I do know that clubs from the Premier [League] have been following him during the January transfer window.”
Gomez has been in good form for his side this season, scoring 10 goals in 21 La Liga outings thus far, and he looks like a real prospect for the future.
He would be ideally suited to Spurs, what with Mauricio Pochettino’s penchant for developing young and raw talent into the finished article.
Judging by Miñambres’ comment though, it seems as though the Lilywhites are not even in for Gomez…for the time being at least.
