Posted — UpdatedGiglio’s sons, James, 16, and Jackson, 13, were injured in a crash on Oct. 18. The teens were leaving a birthday party in the backseat of a friend’s car. Both had to undergo emergency surgery but, since they were wearing their seatbelts, survived.
“I’m here today because I wore my seatbelt in the backseat,” Jackson says in one video.
“As a parent, you always want your kids to listen to you, but they always don’t,” Giglio said. “This one time, I really was glad they were (listening).”
Nearly half of all drivers and passengers involved in fatal car crashes were not wearing a seat belt at the time, according to the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program.
